Fish brotherhood via Japan

Ryouta proudly standing in front of his twin fin shaped by one of the legend shaper in san diego, Bill Caster in the 80's. He got this board for $50 in a flea market when he was in Hawaii.

Someone said that Caster always used red opaque tints on his own surfboards. Maybe, this red fish is one of Caster's personal boards.

Baptized Again

I don't know how I pulled it off. But there I was, sitting in crystal clear water, feeling the swells pass underneath me. Me and a few friends sitting on the glass-like ocean. The surf wasn't huge, but it was perfect for the state I was in. My first wave was the best. Shoulder-high, leftward reeling, fast, long, forgiving. I could just go from top to bottom to top to bottom until it let me out.

When I kicked out and paddled back to where the guys were sitting I looked down through the clear water at the ocean floor eight feet below, dunked my face in and wished I could drink it all.

One of the best times I've had in Newport.

4 years ago, there was a crew at rj's that surfed it religiously.  OTF, warmjet, Dr. Gucci, Chad, Beek, Jack, Hopp, and a few others.  Big or small, we were out there with different surf craft, and digital waterproof cams were just starting to come up.  We were playing around with them and having a blast recording  our sessions.

There was no Wedge, no Blackies, it was all about River and what it was doin.

Once a year the December hi tides along with the right sandbars and windswell lit up this little gem that wrapped in from the south jetty to sometimes just under the bridge.

Magic moments, magic times with good friends that will never be forgotten.

I salute you...
